Still not sure about what CRT is and what you can do to help provide it to those in need? Read on![/caption] If you are new to the world of Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) products or still don't quite understand what they are, we want to help educate you! One of our biggest challenges is the lack of understanding regarding the people and processes that are involved in the provision of CRT equipment. NCART works hard to provide CRT equipment to those who need it and we need your help to get the word out. CRT equipment includes power wheelchairs, highly configurable manual wheelchairs, adaptive seating and positioning systems, among others. These products are used by children and adults who have significant disabilities and medical conditions such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, or Spina Bifida. CRT products help individuals deal with their daily challenges and help keep them active and independent. In addition to aiding individuals as they complete daily tasks, CRT equipment keeps the overall cost of healthcare lower because it reduces the likelihood of additional medical complications and responsibilities of caregivers. The process of providing CRT equipment is typically done through the services of a team with a Physician, a Physical or Occupational Therapist and a credentialed Rehab Technology Professional. This team works to meet the unique needs of each individual with clinical and technology-related services. The suppliers of CRT equipment play a very vast and important role. Their duties usually include initial assessment, trial equipment and simulation, technology assessment, home assessment, recommendations, funding approval, purchasing, assembly, delivery, fitting, training, follow-up and ongoing maintenance. There are a limited number of qualified CRT suppliers that provide these specialized services to those in need. NCART is an association of suppliers that work to make sure that those with significant disabilities and medical conditions have access to the CRT products and services that they need. For more information about NCART and the CRT equipment we provide, you can check out our Educational Materials online. If you are ready to get involved, see what issues are being discussed in your state legislation.
